About the Evening

Grandmother Oak stands on Emberlight's land, rooted and listening. On this November evening, Mary Lane, author of Plant Medicine for End-of-Life Care, invites you to come and sit with her. Together we will meet the plant kingdom as an extension of Mother Earth's own consciousness, and discover what it feels like to be in relationship with a plant at the level of spirit.

At Emberlight, respect for all beings is one of our core values, and this evening lives inside it: reciprocity with the living world, and awe for the intelligence growing all around us. Plant essences offer a gentle way to resource ourselves, whether we are sitting at a bedside, caring for someone we love, or moving through the many endings and beginnings a life holds. This is a chance to move from learning about that practice to living it.

What to Expect

The evening moves between indoors and out. We begin together, settling into why people have long turned to plants as medicine and what we are truly meeting when we work with them. Then we walk out to sit with Grandmother Oak, offering our honor and our attention as we listen for her essence. Back inside, a shamanic drumming journey carries us deeper, followed by quiet time to journal and a closing sharing circle.

You will leave with a felt sense of what it is to create a plant spirit essence, and the beginnings of a practice you can carry home. If you joined our October author series with Mary, this is the place to deepen into it, and if you did not, you are just as welcome. This gathering is in person only and will not be live streamed.

The Book

Mary's book, Plant Medicine for End-of-Life Care, is a natural companion to this evening, and it holds the practice for making many more essences after you leave. We encourage you to purchase a copy online here ahead of time. Copies will also be available to purchase on site, and Mary will be glad to sign them. All proceeds from sales of the book support Emberlight.

About Mary Lane

Mary Lane is the founder of Divine Nourishment and the author of Plant Medicine for End-of-Life Care. For more than thirty years she has journeyed with plant spirits and made plant spirit essences, weaving Mother Earth's wisdom through her work as a chef, forager, herbalist, and teacher. After years as a hospice-trained death volunteer, she set out to offer a natural, plant-based path for anyone who wants their final passage, and the transitions throughout life, to be held by the plant kingdom. Her forthcoming book is Death-Walking with Spirit. You can learn more about her work at divinenourishment.net.

Where

We gather in the Light House at Emberlight, 83 Sanctuary Rd, Swannanoa, NC, and spend part of the evening outdoors with Grandmother Oak. Please dress warmly for time outside after dark.

Registration

This is a Pay What You Can event, and proceeds support Emberlight. The care we offer is free to every resident and family who comes to us, and it stays free because this community holds it up. Your ticket goes directly into that work. We invite you to give what feels right for you, and for those able to give more, that generosity is what keeps a bed open and a hand held for the next person who needs one.

Please note that all event tickets are non-refundable, except in the case that Emberlight cancels the event.

Please contact events@emberlightway.org with any questions.
